FNPA Residency Program
The FNPA Residency at MANCC, is being designed in collaboration with Emily Johnson and the Maggie Allesee National Center for Choreography (MANCC). Cultural competency learning in the process includes tracks on Embodied Land Acknowledgement, Building a FNPA Residency Model, Decolonizing Digital Space, Decolonizing the DNA of the organization, and Building Accompliceship. MANCC is a participating member in FNPA’s Decolonizing Track.

Ꮟ ᎠᏂᏬᏂ They Are Still Talking

Maura García is a First Nations Performing Arts Partnership Fellow, with support from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
Maura García (unenrolled Cherokee/Mattamuskeet) - the first FNPA Residency at MANCC choreographer - will commence her site visit in September 2021, ahead of her Spring 2022 residency to develop Ꮟ ᎠᏂᏬᏂ They Are Still Talking. García will use this visit with MANCC Artist and FNPA consortium member, Emily Johnson to build relationships with local Indigenous community members. Ꮟ ᎠᏂᏬᏂ They Are Still Talking explores ancestral messages through the lens of Cherokee language and traditional teachings about women and two-spirit people.
